Smith to leave Secretary post

Vermont Secretary of Administration Michael K. Smith will leave his post at the end of August, the governor's office announced today.

Gov. Jim Douglas will appoint Vermont Agency of Transportation Secretary Neale Lunderville to fill the vacancy, the Times Argus reports. David Dill, who currently serves as deputy secretary of transportation, will succeed Lunderville at VTrans.

"Mike is an invaluable member of my team and a close personal friend. I cannot thank him enough for the top-quality work he has done for Vermont," Douglas said in a statement. "He has worked tirelessly to help advance our vision of positive change and to make Vermont more affordable and our families more prosperous.

The secretary of administration is responsible for overseeing the state's budget, human resources, tax policies, buildings and general services, IT infrastructure and state library services.

Another shift today comes as acting Commissioner of Health Sharon Moffatt is stepping down to spend more time with her family, Agency of Human Services Secretary Cynthia D. La Ware announced in a press release.

"I cannot thank Sharon enough for her dedicated service to Vermont," Douglas said in a statement.

Moffatt has been acting commissioner since 2006. Prior to that she served as deputy commissioner of health.

A favorite political cliche. And boy wonder Lunderville wheels his trike on over to Admin just in time for the campaign season.

Looks as if Old Jim is shaking out the mothballs for his '08 Roadshow...don't imagine the yokels will fork over their shekels for a fourth dose of the same old snake oil.
