Dems take on Douglas over stimulus plan

With skepticism mounting over Gov. Jim Douglas' 'surprise' economic stimulus package, the state Democratic Party has unveiled a video release attacking Douglas on the plan.

At his weekly press conference yesterday, Douglas vaguely outlined what could amount to be over $100 million aid package to spur economic activity in the state.

"I expect to have something to present very soon but I don't today," Douglas said.

"Jim Douglas' explanation - or lack thereof - of his economic stimulus 'plan' yesterday left Vermonters keeping our fingers crossed that this governor will finally show some leadership on the important issues facing the state," wrote Vermont Democratic Party executive director Jill Krowinski in an email.

The announcement comes as legislators look to negotiate $25 million in cuts to the state's budget.

We've just been blind-sided," Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Susan Bartlett, D-Lamoille, told the Burlington Free Press.
