The Vermont Republican Party commented on U.S. Sen. John McCain’s pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate.
“Senator McCain has earned a reputation as a maverick senator and he has now picked an independent-minded governor to shake up Washington,” said Chairman Rob Roper. “This is truly a historic day for America, the Republican National Committee, and the Vermont Republican Party. Governor Palin is following a trail blazed by Republican leaders like former Vermont Lt. Governor Consuelo Bailey, who was the first female Lieutenant Governor in the US, and Martha Rainville, who served as the nation's first female State Adjutant General.”
“All Vermonters – men and women – should be excited about Senator McCain’s pick,” he said. “This represents an important milestone that Vermonters and Americans should be proud of.”
Roper said Palin isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo and has worked across party lines to reform government.
